From the President of Dundee Court Co-op
As most members now, our fellow member, past president and friend Heather Lahoda passed away June 17th. It is, of course, a tremendous loss to her family, and also to her many friends and colleagues in the Co-op and to the Co-op itself. She was a long-time member and always active in the affairs of Dundee Court, serving numerous terms on the Board and as President. Heather seemed a fixture here. Her mother was a member, and two of her children now live in the Co-op as members in their own right.
The theme of Heather’s time here was perhaps “change.” She knew the original members of the Co-op and shared in the excitement as they moved on into their own houses or shared in the sorrow as they passed. She watched a generation of kids grow up in Dundee Court and welcomed some of them back as members with their own children. Her legacy here is everywhere: pet policy, painting policy, parking policy all have her touch on them, as well as most major and minor renovation projects that have been undertaken in the last fifteen or twenty years.

At the same time, she was a symbol of constancy. She had the long memory to keep things on a stable track and evolving rather than jerking from crisis to crisis. She spent many years on the governance team ensuring that the business of the Co-op was carried out with honesty, integrity and with the best interests of the membership at the fore. In our time shared on the Board I admired and appreciated her ability to define challenges, identify solutions and keep things moving. I like to think that the current state of our finances and physical environment are a testament to her leadership during her tenure.
There will be a gathering here in the amenity room for Heather’s Co-op family and friends on Saturday, July 5 at noon to remember, laugh and tell tall tales. The Social Committee has graciously offered to provide coffee and tea and accoutrements. Members are welcome and encouraged to bring whatever food they would like to share.
